New Grant Rewards Undergraduate Achievement

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Fourteen high-achieving students have been selected as the winners of the 2008 Most Promising Minority Students/The Home Depot Scholarship. The scholarship is sponsored by The Home Depot and executed by the American Advertising Federation’s Mosaic Center on Multiculturalism.

Both the AAF and The Home Depot are committed to helping multicultural students finish their undergraduate educations and jump start their advertising and marketing careers.

“Diversity and inclusion have always been a part of The Home Depot’s core values, and we believe that they are the catalysts for innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit,” said Manish Shrivastava, director of multicultural marketing. “We are honored to be associated with a program that is committed to the diversification of the advertising industry and acknowledges qualified candidates from a variety of backgrounds.”

“We are thankful and very appreciative that The Home Depot, a company that is always out front and taking the lead, reached out to us to create this scholarship,” said James Edmund Datri, AAF president and CEO. “Diversity is a central issue for us, for the industry and for our nation, and it is important that we support the education and training of advertising’s future leaders.”

Each winning student will receive a $5,000 scholarship to be used for their tuition and education-related expenses. To be eligible for the scholarship, students had to be college sophomores or juniors and demonstrate the potential to become a candidate for AAF’s Most Promising Minority Students Program, which focuses on multicultural seniors. Students also had to have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a U.S. citizen of African, Asian, Latino, Native American or Pacific Islander descent.

– Deanna Moreno – University of Illinois
– Ashley Newman – University of Illinois
– Erica Pang – University of California, Berkeley
– Cynthia Panganiban – University of Illinois
– Ellena Park – University of Texas, Austin
– Sebastian Reeve – Texas State University, San Marcos
– Kelly Togashi – Pennsylvania State University
